Bush can do tenses; Iran is, like, so dangerous

December 4, 2007 · 5 Comments

“Iran was dangerous. Iran is dangerous. And Iran will be dangerous…”

Oh gosh it was fun watching this at work and then watching the stories roll in. Here’s a quick recap: Bushy has just given his first presser for seven weeks. It started out on tax, but the reporters soon got him onto Eye-ran. See CNN’s video here.

His chat included the words above (impressive, non?!) as well as Iran remaining a “danger to the world,” so the US should keep “all options” against it open. All this in spite of the fact that yesterday a US intelligence report was released saying Tehran halted its nuclear weapons programme in 2003.

The Washington Post has the full transcript here, and there are some real stand-out gems amongst the fine rhetoric:

  • BUSH: Yes, it was — how — people said, “Well, why is it that you can’t get exact knowledge quicker?”

Well? Why is it…?

  • BUSH: The NIE says that Iran had a hidden — you know, a covert nuclear weapons program. That’s what it said. What’s to say they couldn’t start another covert nuclear weapons program? And the best way to ensure that — that they’re — that the world is peaceful in the future, is for the international community to continue to work together to say to the Iranians, you know, “We’re going to isolate you. However, there is a better way forward for the Iranians.”

Making an entire nation feel isolated is definitely going to work. Try replacing “isolate” with “victimise.” Oh… sorry Dub… try “bully.”

  • BUSH: I’m saying that I believed before the NIE that Iran was dangerous and I believe after the NIE that Iran is dangerous. And I believe now is the time for the world to do the hard work necessary to convince the Iranians there is a better way forward.

You “I buh-leeeve” quite a lot, don’t ya! Believing is seeing after all. Also, who taught you the rule of three? Better late than never.

Lovely stuff. The Guardian has global reactions to this non-bombshell. Surprisingly, the cheese-eating surrender monkeys seem to be on America’s side:

The French foreign ministry’s spokesman
“It appears that Iran is not respecting its international obligations. We must keep up the pressure on Iran … we will continue to work on the introduction of restrictive measures in the framework of the United Nations.”

Oh, and that’s the side of Gordon Brown’s spokesman too.

This isn’t over, is it? Not when they’re always thinking of new ways to harm the American people…
