More film fest excitement for y’all!

Last night saw director Paul Greengrass receive The Variety UK Achievement in Film Award at an event held in conjunction with the London Film Festival. He was then interviewed by Variety magazine’s Europe and Middle East correspondent, Ali Jaafar. The discussion ranged from Greengrass’s interest in Northern Ireland to the process of making The Murder of Stephen Lawrence. Suchandrika Chakrabarti reports

Friday Funday: Watch out, Doherty’s still about. STILL. Despite all the drugs.

October 26, 2007 · 7 Comments

Good news for those Londoners looking for an un-quiet weekend: Pete Doherty has escaped jail after admitted driving offences and possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis. He could be in a car near you tonight!

No news on whether he managed to fit the entire stash into that hat. However, LOTS of news on his four-month suspended sentence (it’s this week’s Kringe) in the papers today. He’ll avoid jail if he’s a good boy for the next two years.

Hm. Easy.

Much more than anyone wants to know, after the jump.

Here’s the PA report:

OJ Simpson wanted armed men with him when he confronted two sports memorabilia dealers, according to a co-defendant who agreed to plead guilty and testify against the former American football star.

“OJ said, ‘Hey, just bring some firearms’,” Walter Alexander told police, according to a transcript of his tape-recorded statement.

Catching up with The Simpsons

October 2, 2007 · No Comments

It’s been a while, so let’s check up on the crazy, crazy world of the Simpsons. For those desperate for news and short on time, it appears that:

  1. Attorneys for the prosecution and the defence are to meet with the judge to decide on prelim hearing
  2. Among the sports memorabilia with which the defendants left with, there was the hat (?!) of one of the collectors, Bruce Fromong (probs not the hat in the pic, wouldn’t be that sensible really)
  3. Tucking into a meal, receiving a lap dance or watching his children play sports,” are not the only things the Juice has been up to…

Spector! Mistrial?!

September 27, 2007 · No Comments

Ah, finger-gun photos. This trial has been rather rich in them.

What I am enjoying most about this development, however, is that my most recent boss just broke the update to me earlier this evening in t’pub. Bless her, she really knows what my priorities are.

The Hit Wig Parade 2: Electric Boogaloo

September 24, 2007 · No Comments

This photo surely reminds us of a highlight of the trial: Dianne Ogden, testifying back in May this year. Revisit the memory here. No mention made of whose hair that actually is, because it looks suspiciously like Spector’s “Busy Mom” number…Anyway, what’s new in deadlocked jury land??
